E. Europe Leads in Fiber

Europe's FTTH subscribers grow by 22% Y-o-Y-- thanks to E. Europe's booming broadband market, according to Ventura Team's Richard Jones.

BroadbandIn a podcast with Telecoms IQ, Jones says E. Europe is the place to look at for ultra-fast fiber deployments, where telecoms and cable operators explore further options for overcoming the challenges of high speed broadband delivery.

One example he gives is Hungary, where in parts one can find three fiber operators with FTTH competing in the same area. Another is Slovakia, which currently has 1 gig service.

Jones mentiones high speed broadband deployment's challenges-- including the potential loss of money from an operation and the compromise of fiber to the cabinet, FTTH and other technologies.

Ultimately users will always demand increasingly faster technologies-- and the stronger that trend continues, the more technological choices become limited, according to Jones.
