The size strikes you first. It’s not just a little larger than Sharp's 85” 8k prototype. This sets the new SHV benchmark up to a whopping 145”. And with SHV, one look and you could just fall right into the picture.

With 7680-by-4320-pixel resolution, this is also a prototype of the world's first self-luminous display. And to complete its trifecta of features, Panasonic/NHK developed new panel drivers to make this screen flicker-free (no, not easy to achieve on a display of this size).

"Super Hi-Vision" (also known as ultra HDTV) is still only a prototype, with 8k technology years away from being ready for the broadcast market. But you can’t help but fall in love with the resolution.

The 145” Plasma is on show at NHK's laboratories, and feature in a report at the SID International Symposium in USA in June.
