Microsoft names Spiceworks winner in the best networking product category at Tech•Ed 2011.

Spiceworks combines network, PC and help desk management in a free product, which it says has a community of 1.4m WW IT professional users. 

It provides not only network monitoring (with alerts for anything from users installing software to printer toner levels getting low) but also hardware and software inventory tools, network mapping and IT management scheduling. 

Completing the package are community features for IT professionals to exchange their how-tos and vendor reviews.
