Cloudera Acquires Myrrix

Big Data specialist Cloudera buys into machine learning as it buys Myrrix, a London-based developer of large-scale machine learning ("Big Learning") based on Apache Hadoop and Apache Mahout, for an unspecified sum.

MyrrixMyrrix founder Sean Owen joins Cloudera as Director of Data Science (where he will probably work on tool development), and the new owners get to own at least some Myrrix IP together with its customer base.

"We’re going to make “Big Learning” on Hadoop easy and accessible" Owen says in his acquisition announcement.

Myrrix currently has no plans of creating new products-- the company will instead work on incorporating its technology into CDH, the Cloudera open source Hadoop distribution.
