Cisco Pays $2.9bn for Starent in Mobile Video

Cisco Systems pays $2.9bn in cash for infrastructure firm Starent Networks, a company that helpi mobile carriers (Sprint, Vodafone etc) manage clips for phones and other mobile devices.

Starent works with existing and developing mobile standards, serving networks operators in 45 countries. Now to become a new Mobile Internet division at Cisco as part of the larger group’s service provider business, Starent has grown rapidly and in 2008 it earned $60.5m on revenue that rose 74% to $255m.
