Polycom buys HP's visual collaboration assets-- including its Halo products and managed services business-- as part of a "broad strategic alliance".
This alliance will involve Polycom's providing software technology and UC infrastructure expertise while HP provides its knowledge of UC solution go-to-market strategies.
HP will be reselling Polycom UC solutions, including personal and group UC devices, infrastructure, managed services and audio/video software. Polycom video application will also find a new home on HP's WebOS platform.
Polycom describes the announcement as "groundbreaking for the UC industry", and HP says the alliance will now allow it to focus on cloud computing and connectivity.
