Juniper Beats Q3 Estimates, Cuts Jobs

Juniper Networks Q3 2013 revenues reach $1.19 billion, beating earlier estimates with 6% Y-o-Y growth (or 3% Q-o-Q) making the period the 5th consecutive quarter of Y-o-Y growth for the networking vendor.

Juniper NetworksHowever the company wants to streamline operations even further, with plans to slash 280 jobs by end 2013-- a move CFO Robyn Denholm describes as the result of "restructuring and rebalancing."

Meanwhile CEO Kevin Johnson says the company is close to finding his successor, saying "We are in the later stages of that process."

Juniper net income totals $99.1 million, up from $16.8m for the previous year. Enterprise business revenue totals $397.3m, while service provider revenues rise from $705m in Q3 2012 to £788m.

The Platform Systems Division (PSD) covering routers and switches sees revenues worth $939m (up from $828.5m last year) with growth partly attributed to strong MSX 202 edge series router sales.

Security is a sore point for the company-- revenues drop from $176m for Q3 2012 to $144m for Q3 2013.

Company outlook for Q4 2013 is wary of potential impacts in federal spending due to the recent US government shutdown, with forecast revenues in the $1.20-1.23bn range, even if it hopes for a strong launch for the Contrail SDN controller and its general SDN strategy.
