Cisco keeps its wallet close at hand during November 2012-- the company spends $141 million in cash on privately held network software developer Cariden Technologies.

CiscoThe purchase follows last week's all-cash $1.2 billion acquisition of cloud networking solutions provider Meraki.

Cariden develops network planning, design and traffic management solutions for telecommunications service providers. It already supports the Open Network Environment (ONE) strategy, the Cisco take on software-defined networking.

Following acquisition the company will be integrated into the Cisco Service Provider Networking Group, while Cariden products will also find use in Cisco's nLight IP and optical convergence technology.
