Nutanix moves into SaaS-based multi-cloud compliance, Acropolis SDN-based security and PaaS-based automated database operations with a trio of .NEXT Conference 2018 announcements-- Beam, Flow and Era.
Beam is based on technology from a recent Nutanix acquisition, Binjar Botmetric service. It promises a better means for customers to manage multi-cloud deployments by providing full visibility into overall cloud costs, allowing IT teams to identify unused and underutlised resources and select more size and cost appropriate cloud resources for each application.
Customers also get streamlined visibility into the entire cloud footprint, allowing the tracking of resource consumption by department and group. On the security and regulatory compliance side, Beam allows users to define custom health check policies for compliance audits, and analyse security operations while real-time cloud compliance scans identify risks and violations.
On the other hand Flow is a software-defined networking (SDN) solution built into to the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud OS. It is fully integrated in the Acropolis software for easy deployment, and non-intrusively automates the creation and management of application security. Network visualisation provides users with an at-a-glance view of network performance and availability per application, while application-centric microsegmentation provides granular control and governance for all application traffic, protecting sensitive workloads and data.
Service insertion and chaining integrates additional network functions from multiple Nutanix Ready ecosystem partners into a single networking plicy. A number of common network configuration changes, such as VLAN configuration or load balancer policy notifications, are automated as based on application lifecycle events for VMs running on Nutanix AHV.
The final Nutanix addition is Era-- a set of PaaS offerings designed to streamline and automate database operations. It extends the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud OS software stack beyond core IaaS capabilities for private cloud environments to platform-layer services, bringing one-click simplicity to database operations.
