NetApp announces a hybrid version of NetApp Private Storage (NPS)-- NPS as a Service, an SaaS offering available on a subscription-based service through a number of partners and co-location vendors.

NetApp cloudNPS as a Service partners include Arrow, Faction and ThinkOn, while Equinix is a co-location vendor.

First launched back in 2012, NPS allows customer to connect on-premise storage with AWS, Microsoft Azure and SoftLayer clouds. One can base storage infrastructure in a colocation facility, providing high-speed connections directly to the cloud. The SaaS version allows customers to work with service providers to manage storage as an operating expense, with connections to both on- and off-premise storage.

NetApp says one can start off small and scale as upwards as business grows, adjusting compute and storage resources on the fly. Meanwhile single-source billing and support simplify purchasing, implementation and management.

Also announced by the company is an expansion on the Storage Grid object storage offering through the addition of an embedded Linux OS in the software version, an update on the AltaVault cloud-integration storage backup appliance and an update of SnapCenter able to migrate data snapshots without need for the Ontap operating environment.
