The CloudEthernet Forum (CEF) and Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) launch the Open Cloud Project, an open test and iterative standards development program for service providers, vendors and OTT cloud service providers.

CEF MEFTo do so the project features a Silicon Valley-based proof of concept test laboratory providing ongoing testing and support for CEF CloudE 1.0 open cloud specification development, as well as future compliance and benchmark testing

Initial work will also focus on application performance management, cloud security and traffic load balancing.

“Network security and application performance management are two critical areas for future work,” the MEF says.  “The Open Project is intended to create an open test process for NFV, SDN and carrier ethernet applications.  We also plan to work in conjunction with other relevant influential industry forums to maximize efficiencies and avoid any duplication of work.”

According to IDC cloud interoperability initiatives are key for both vendors and cloud service providers-- the analyst forecasts 2017 global public IT cloud service spending is to exceed $100 billion as it grows with a CAGR of 23.5% over the 2013-2017 period.
