Dell Buys More Cloud

The ongoing process of turning private does not appear to slow down Dell's shift from hardware to services-- the company acquires cloud management software developer Enstratius for an undisclosed sum.

Enstratius dellPreviously known as eNStratus, Entratius makes a "cloud agnostic" management tool handling  applications across multiple public, private and hybrid clouds. It also offers cloud optimisation, automation, management, security and compliance tools.

“Dell, together with Enstratius, is uniquely positioned to deliver differentiated, complete cloud-management solutions to enterprise customers, large and small, empowering them with the efficiency and flexibility in the allocation and use of resources," a Dell statement says.

As well as software the acquisition brings Dell some high profile talent-- chiefly DevOps Cookbook co-author John Willis and former Cisco cloud boss James Urquhart.

No mention is available whether the Enstratius team will be moving to Dell HQ, but its technology will be integrated with other recent Dell acquisitions, including database maker Quest, storage company Compellent, SDN developer RNA Networks and cloud integration company Boomi, among others.
