Red Hat Reveals OpenShift Enterprise

Red Hat broadens its cloud development platform-- the open source OpenShift Enterprise development platform is now available as an on-premise Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS).

OpenshiftOpenShift Enterprise follows OpenShift Online, the public PaaS offering launched back in May 2011. It shares the same open source code (OpenShift Origin), runs on top of an IaaS stack and uses enterprise-grade technologies such as JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

It can be installed on-premise within customer datacentres or on private, public and hybrid clouds.

As a multi-language PaaS OpenShift Enterprise supports Java EE6, Ruby, Python, PHP, Perl, MySQL and PostgreSQL. A cartridge-based achitecture allows customers to include their own middleware services.

Security-Enhanced Linux (SELinux) provides both security and multi-tenancy, and allows the subdivision of Node instances.

OpenShift Enterprise is available now within both UK and continental Europe. Red Hat also plans for wider global availability for the future.
