Sophos sets to bolster its cloud security capabilities with the acquisition of Avid Secure, a next-generation cloud infrastructure company. Financial details of the deal are not available.

Avid SecureFounded in 2017, Avid Secure offers an cloud security analytics, compliance and DevSecOps platform to provide end-to-end protection in public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure and Google. It uses artificial intelligence and automation to address challenges involved with cloud security, including lack of workload visibility, and the constant monitoring required to stay ahead of sophisticated attacks.

“The accelerated adoption of public cloud environments is presenting new data security challenges to organizations," Sophos says. "With the cloud workload protection and the cloud security posture management software from Avid Secure, Sophos will expand its current capabilities in cloud security and drive leadership in this growing space."

Sophos made a similar acquisition little more than 2 years ago-- Invincea, maker of an antivirus software using neural network algorithms to detect and block malware in realtime. Eventually Invincea technology was built into Intercept, the Sophos next-gen endpoint security product.
