EU's ICT Security Incidents Down

Eurostat releases its ICT usage in enterprises 2010 report, with the results of its survey (with special focus on ICT security) amongst EU27 countries. 

ICT SecurityThe report reveals 12% of enterprises experiencing security incidents due to hardware or software failure, and 5% reporting data destruction or corruption (due to malicious software infection or unauthorised access).

Reports of confidential data disclosure due to intrusion, pharming or phishing attacks come from 1% or less of enterprises. 

By January 2010, half of EU27 enterprises used strong passwords or hardware tokens for user identificationa and authentication. 

Meanwhile 94% of enterprises have internet access-- the majority (85%) have fixed broadband and 27% also use mobile broadband connections. 

Mobile broadband use varies widely through the EU-- from 55% of Finnish enterprises (and 95% of its large enterprises) to 6% in Greece and 8% in Romania.
