Cisco announces its acquisition of Embrane, a “lifecycle management platform for application-centric network services” provider the company has already invested $14 million in back in 2014.

Embrane Further financial details are not available.

The company is already familiar with the way its new owner works, having added lifecycle management a number of Cisco products, including the Adaptive Security Virtual Appliance and the Sourcefire virtual appliance, as well as other 3rd party systems.

One such product is the Elastic Service Manager, which adds firewall and load balancer management to the Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC).

"The Embrane team will help to expand our strategy of offering freedom of choice to our customers through the Nexus product portfolio and enhance the capabilities of Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)," Cisco says. "With this acquisition, we continue our commitment to open standards through programmable APIs and multi-vendor environments. More importantly, we remain committed to the rich ecosystem of partners and customers in production through the automation of network services, cloud and system management orchestration and automation stacks."

Following the acquisition the Embrane team joins a set of other Cisco purchases-- the Insieme business unit, formed by SDN vendor Insieme (a 2012 Cisco buy) and Memoir Systems, among others.
