HP Opens the SDN App Store, a means for customers to acquire (and partners to sell) software-defined networking (SDN) network applications together with consulting and support services.

HP SDN StoreThe store carries tools such as network monitors, virtualised firewalls and adaptive load balancers from both HP and six partners.

Applications on offer are divided in 4 circles-- HP (applications built and tested solely by HP), Premium (top selling applications joint-tested by HP and partners), Partner  (applications self-tested by HP partners and reviewed by HP) and Community (open-access and community-supported applications).

On the support side the store offers HP trusted SDN Security Deployment to help with the integration and deployment of multiple SDN security apps, as well as SDN Application and Controller Services and HP Foundation Care and Proactive Care.

“Our customers are eager to transform their network architecture into a competitive advantage, and SDN applications make that possible,” HP says. “With the HP SDN App Store, we have completed the final piece of the SDN ecosystem by offering a vibrant, robust marketplace of innovations that supports more than 5 million users and provides support to customers as they migrate to SDN.”

According to IDC the SDN network application market is to reach $1.1 billion in 2017, a sign of a need for a scaleable open marketplace for vendors to monetise their innovations.
