HPE Presents "Composable Infrastructure" With Synergy

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announces Synergy-- a hybrid cloud platform based on a "groundbreaking" architecture the company dubs "Composable Infrastructure."

HPE SynergyEssentially, Synergy combines storage, compute and network hardware in a single chassis, together with management software allowing customers to quickly configure the hardware to provide just the resources required to run an application. Or, as HPE puts it, users can "compose and recompose" hardware to boot up ready to deploy all workloads (physical, virtual and containerised), with software self-discovering and self-assembling the required infrastructure. A unified API allows 100% interface programmability together with bare-metal interfaces for IaaS applications.

Basic Synergy hardware consists of a 10RU frame customers can order in various compute and storage configurations. The frame houses the appliances running the management software (namely Synergy Composer and Synergy Image Streamer), and one can stack 4 frames in a rack, and lash together multiple racks.

A single HPE OneView-powered UI composes physical and virtual resources into any configuration for any application. The platform is also exensible, making Synergy ideal for scalable hybrid cloud environments complete with continuous DevOps.

"Organisations are looking to capitalize on the speed and agility of the cloud but want the reliability and security of running business critical applications in their own datacenters," the company says. "With HPE Synergy, IT can deliver infrastructure as code and give businesses a cloud experience in their datacenter.”

HPE should start shipping Synergy to channel partners from Q2 2016.
