A Lenovo Server for the Edge

Lenovo presents what it claims is a new class of edge server-- the ThinkSystem SE350 is a compact purpose-built server customers can deploy just about anywhere, be it on a wall, shelf, rack or even on the floor.

Lenovo edge serverAccording to the company, the SE350 allows for reliable server-class performance at many Edge locations. The rugged design handles temperatures from 0° to 55°C, and also tolerates locations with high dust and vibration, such as construction site trailers and manufacturing floors. Office-friendly acoustics allow deployment in traditional office or branch locations.

Inside the server are an Intel Xeon-D processor with up to 16 cores, together with 256GB RAM and 16TB SSD storage. It also supports the Nvidia Tesla T4 for workloads such as Edge Inferencing, allowing it to handle AI deployments. Connectivity options include wired 10/100Mb/1GbE, 1GbE SFP, 10GBASE-T and 10GbE SFP+, as well as secure wireless wifi and cellular LTE connections. As for security, Lenovo includes key-encrypted storage and physical security such as a locking bezel and intrusion and tamper-detection mechanisms.

The ThinkSystem SE350 ships from Q3 2019.
