Equinix Plans First European Product Development Centre

Equinix, the largest datacentre and colocation provider in the world, announces a €39.8 million investment in a European Product Development Centre in Warsaw, Poland-- a first design centre in the continent for the company.

WarsawThe US-based giant will use the location to develop and test network solutions and virtual infrastructure capabilities for use in over 200 Equinix datacentres across the globe. The development centre will be the 3rd for the company, following the ones in Silicon Valley and Singapore, and should employ 40 people in 2018, a total set to increase to 90 by end 2019.

"Our customers associate our brand with something higher level than buildings or technical connections-- they see us as partners in business strategy and innovation, where we ideate together and often co-develop solutions together," Equinix says. "We are excited to extend our capabilities to further support these global companies and look forward to working with them to drive innovation in our new Product Development Center in Warsaw."

The company adds the choice of Poland was "thanks to its supply of highly trained engineers and specifically, software experts who have a well-deserved reputation for being among the world's brightest." Equinix entered the Polish market with the 2016 acquisition of Telecity, one giving it 2 datacentres in Warsaw and an internet exchange.
