Telecommunications provider CenturyLink joins forces with Cisco to launch Managed Cisco SD-WAN, a solution powered by the viritualised network platform and vEdge routers of Cisco subsidiary Viptela.

CenturyLink SD-WANCenturyLink already offers a managed SD-WAN solution in collaboration with Versa Networks, but the Cisco-powered service is arguably easier to integrate with existing infrastructure fom the networking giant. As such, it supports Cisco Viptela vEdge series routers enterprise network computer system (ENCS) 5000 series virtualised network platform. It also offers customers a dedicated SD-WAN portal.

"This offer provides more choices for companies to achieve improved network optimisation and deliver better performance for their customers," CenturyLink says. "We reduce the risk and complexity of WAN modernization with a complete range of global hybrid connectivity and SD-WAN solutions that offer better service quality, faster deployment and improved security, scale and cost efficiency."

Just a month ago CenturyLink announced global availability of its original SD-WAN solution. The company says SD-WAN is a means to augment MPLS networks, but it also offers other connectivity options, including dedicated internet, broadband aggregation and 4G LTE.
