Jon Peddie Research says the workstation market heads towards to pre-economic collapse levels as sales reach 849700 units in Q3 2010.

workstationsThe market shows 31.8% Y-o-Y growth, stronger than what the analyst expects.

The workstation volume leader for 2010 is HP with 40.5% market share. Dell takes second place with 37.5%. The analyst says while HP moves forward in the business, it believes Dell is able to keep up-- if willing.

This year shows slow growth for professional graphics hardware, with WW units reaching 1.14m (down 9.5% sequentially). Not that the professional graphics segment is entirely down-- mobiles remain flat, while 3D cards show 9% sequential growth.

If anything, the 2D card sub-segment drags the market down-- with 333600 units sold in Q3 2010 (from Q2 2010's 497500 units). Such a dramatic short-term dip probably does not indicate any longer-term trends though, the research concludes.
