The Arctica lineup of ethernet networking switches from Penguin Computing is designed with software defined datacentres in mind, offering multiple networking software options and enterprise support.
Currently making the line are two options-- the Arctica 4804i 48-port gigabit ethernet switch and the 4804x 48-port 10 gigabit ethernet switch. Both are based on standard Broadcom silicon and offer multiple software options as a complete turn-key solution.
All switches ship with certified cables and tranceivers, and a 32-port 40 gigabit ethernet version is in the works.
Penguin says the Arctica switches are also the first on the market with Cumulus Linux pre-installed, a network switch distribution of the OS. Existing and custom Linux application run natively on the switch, meaning users can leverage native Linux applications and tools to manage configurations, automation and monitoring.
The custom and management plans are native Linux, and switching silicon accelerates the data path.

"Within this ecosystem our native Linux distribution Cumulus Linux enables customers to leverage existing Linux expertise and tools to build and manage their networking infrastructures at a much lower price point than traditional switch offerings."
