Extreme Networks launches Open Fabric Edge-- an expansion on the Open Fabric network architecture powered by ExtremXOS networking OS designed for more efficient enterprise campus network management.

Extreme NetworksAccording to the company Open Fabric Edge enables UC, Physical Security (PhySec) systems, Audio-Video Bridging (AVB) and WLAN on a single converged network, with an open standards approach allowing increased scalability (1.40GbE), reliability, services and customisation.

Open Fabric Edge supports programmable APIs, the OpenFlow protocol (supported by all Extreme switches) and the OpenStack platform (via plug-in).

Also included are the Ridgeline network and service management software (now in version 4.0), and new ExtremeXOS features such as the Chalet IP camera detection and provision tool.

In addition Extreme launches a series of networking devices-- the Summit X430 series switches (extend ExtremeXOS to converged access edge), Summit X440 series switches (with fibre optic interfaces on all ports) and the Altitude 4022/4522 wireless access points.
