Quantum Expands F-Series Storage Line

Quantum announces a lower-price addition to the F-series NVMe storage appliance family-- the F1000, featuring the software-defined architecture seen in the F2000 but within a package better suited for smaller customers.

Quantum F1000

The F-series appliances are designed for customers wanting to accelerate the capture, editing and finishing of high-definition content, such as HD video used in movie, TV and sports production, as well as marketing and advertising content. Other critical uses include image-based workloads demanding high-speed processing, such as data from satellite feeds, drones or vehicles used in automated driver assistance system (ADAS) development.

Customer demand for a less expensive NVMe-based storage solution lead to the development of the F1000. A 1U NVMe storage server optimised for performance, the F1000 does not have the high-availability design of the F2000. Instead, it uses a single-controller server and an optimised version of the F-series software stack, and offers what Quantum claims is 5-10x faster performance than an equivalent SAS SSD storage array at a similar price.

The F1000 is available in 39 and 77TB capacity, with connectivity via either 32Gb fibre channel or iSER/RDMA using 100Gb ethernet. It is design for deployment as part of a StorNext scale out file storage cluster.
