Intel Tests Optane SSDs on the Cloud

Intel OptaneEnterprises curious to try Intel's 3D XPoint storage can soon do so over the cloud, as the Chipzilla will soon provide free remote access to systems equipped with Optane SSDs based on the technology.

The test systems allow users to run benchmarks confirm whether claims on the technology are true or not, as well as optimise software for better read/write performance. According to Intel 3D Xpoint technology is 10x faster than standard SSDs, making it fast enough to act as both storage and a DRAM substitute (through the application of software-defined memory technology).

Chipzilla will also show enterprises how to organise memory tiers in Optane SSDs through in-memory computing virtualisation tools from ScaleMP.

A joint-development by Intel and Micron, 3D Xpoint will be available in Optane SSDs and memory DIMMs from 2017.
