Data-aware scale-out NAS specialist Qumulo announces the Core 2.0 OS update together with a trio of QC series hybrid storage appliance-- the QC40, QC104 and QC260, all featuring a flexible software and hardware design.

Qumulo applianceQumulo says Core 2.0 differs from storage software alternative by having real-time data analytics built directly into the file system, giving enterprises an "unprecedented" view of data and storage resources at scale. The system promises to be scalable, efficient and resilient, with analytics providing answers to questions such as "where did all the storage capacity go?" and "When will we run out of storage space and why?"

Meanwhile the QC40 and QC260 are described as the first hybrid appliances shipping with Ultrastar He10 HDDs-- the highest capacity helium-filed HDDs from HGST. The other launched appliance, the QC104, is described as a mid-capacity hybrid offering.

All the appliances feature a modular design creating a single file system with linear storage and performance scalability, as well as high capacity storage combining SSD and HDD architectures.

Qumulo Core 2.0 software is available now. The QC40, QC104 and QC260 should be available from Q2 2016.
