VESA Finalises DisplayPort 1.4

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) finalises version 1.4 of the DisplayPort (DP) standard-- a first major update since 2014's version 1.3 featuring Display Stream Compression (DSC) 1.2 technology.

DSC 1.2 enables display resolutions reaching 5120x2880 (5k)@60Hz wigh high dynamic range (HDR), as well as 8K (7680x4320)@60Hz in both HDR and standard modes. In addition it handles Deep Colour 120Hz 4K panels, and provides HD video with 32-channel audio.

“This significant update to the DisplayPort standard is vital to continued growth of adoption for both DP and DSC, particularly in such fast-growing markets as digital television and automotive infotainment,” VESA says. “New applications are demanding displays with better resolution, wider color gamut, and increased dynamic range. We believe the tools provided in this new DP standard release will enable a quantum leap forward in display quality, which leverage DSC compression along with transport of high-quality audio and video content.”

Need an HDMI 2.0 Test Tool? The Murideo Fresco SIX-G

Over the past few years, UHD TVs have been a mix of HDCP 2.2 and 1.4, 300MHz and 600MHz — even to the point of varying by port.

Now Murideo has developed a new test tool, the Fresco SIX-G, for the display & video integration market to confirm HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 compliance at the 18 GBP/sec level.

Additionally the SIX-G is an excellent troubleshooting tool for distributed HDMI systems and a reference source for video calibration-- and is compatible with CalMAN.

One of the biggest challenges for integrators today is determining what infrastructure Read more...

Could This Change Everything in Projection?

Something called the Illumina Light Farm may be as common in your tech vocabulary as DLP or Bluetooth soon. A company called Power Technology just one-upped the entire projection market with what it’s dubbing the Illumina Light Farm.

What is it? Imagine removing the light source for a multi-projector install (e.g., installs where multiple projectors are required, including simulation, video walls, multi-screen movie theaters and image mapping) such that the light was all coming from ONE SOURCE and distributed to each projector as needed. So, Read more...

Displaying Hundreds of IP Cameras on a Video Wall

This article comes courtesy of RGB Spectrum

IP cameras have made enormous gains in image quality, resolution and frame rate in a very short time. Today it is not uncommon to see video resolutions of 20 megapixels or greater at frame rates of 15 to 30 fps. IP surveillance architectures rely on distributed processing to encode and compress video from raw formats captured by the camera imager into streams which pass across common Ethernet networks. Every camera is an encoder, and as you add more cameras, you naturally need more encoding capacity. Read more...
