VMware Expands View for Mac, Linux, Kindle Fire

VMware releases View clients for Mac, Linux and the Kindle Fire, as well as updates to the Android and iPad versions-- allowing access to virtual Windows desktops from anywhere using most devices.

The Mac and Linux View clients are currently available as technology previews, with the Mac version supporting OS X Lion. It allows the switching from Mac to VMware virtual deskopt with a trackpad swipe, the company says.

Autonomy Reveals First post-HP Product

HP launches the first product from $12 billion purchase Autonomy-- IDOL 10, a next-generation data processing platform pulling information from both unstructured (audio, video, social media, email, web content) and structured (customer transaction logs, machine-based sensor data) sources. 

Autonomy says IDOL 10 allows organisations to "automatically process, understand and act on 100 per cent of their data in real-time." It uses resources from another HP purchase-- extreme structured data analysis specialist Vertica.

What's SaaS Vendors' Greatest Hurdle?

The answer to the above question is "integration," according to a global survey from analyst THINKstrategies and cloud integration vendor Mulesoft.

88.8% of survey respondents (consisting of SaaS/cloud service providers) consider integration to be either important or extremely important in winning new customers, while 62.5% of vendors say integration "needs to be a critical part of their solution."

Canalys predicts "enterprise app stores will redefine channel IT business over the next three years," while nearly 80% of EMEA channel partners taking part in a Canalys survey say SaaS is the key cloud opportunity.
