Toshiba Intros Portégé R30 Laptop

Toshiba announces the Portégé R30, a 13-inch laptop designed for SMB customers wanting a portable PC alternative complete with 4th generation Intel Mobile Performance processor and built-in DVD drive.

As well as the aforementioned Intel Mobile Performance processor, specifications include up to 16GB DDR3 memory and either 1TB hybrid HDD or 512GB SSD. Handling security are built-in Intel vPro technology, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and a fingerprint reader, while connectivity includes three USB 3.0 ports, full-size HDMI, LAN port and media card reader.

Chassis construction is in magnesium allow complete with shock-absorbing design, honeycomb reinforcement structure and Toshiba EasyGuard technology.

Apple and IBM Add More Apps

Another eight enterprise apps have emerged from the Apple and IBM partnership under IBM’s MobileFirst banner. The full range of such apps now extends to over 100 industry-specific mobile solutions. This partnership was always likely to be a slow burner, but it does seem to be gaining momentum as time passes.

IBM’s positioning for MobileFirst for iOS is to bring instant, turnkey access to best-in-class enterprise mobility. It plans to deliver solutions that will enrich customer service, strengthen brand loyalty, shrink operating expenses and produce new efficiencies.

Dell Presents Venue 10 7000

Dell launches a larger version of the Venue 8 7000 tablet-- the Venue 10 7000, a 10-inch version of the Android-based device designed for use by both enterprise and consumer customers.

Like it smaller sibling, the Venue 10 features a 2560x1600 OLED display. It is powered by a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 CPU, an RealSense depth camera and audio via MaxxAudio Mobile technology.

Meanwhile a magnetic keyboard accessory allows users to use the tablet in 5 configurations familiar to any user of Lenovo's Yoga devices-- tablet, slate, stand, tent or clamshell.

Android Tablets Get Microsoft Apps

Microsoft announces a strategic agreement with 11 global and regional hardware makers in the pre-installation of mobile versions of Microsoft software on Android-powered tablets.

The apps in question are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype. The companies signing the agreement are Samsung, Dell, TrekStor (Germany), JP Sa Couto (Portugal), Datamatic (Italy), DEXP (Russia), Casper (Turkey), Tecno (Africa), Hipstreet (Canada), QMobile (Pakistan) and Taiwanese ODM Pegatron.

"For OEMs, these deals will increase the value of and enrich people’s experiences on Android devices," the Microsoft announcement reads. "ODMs are important because they extend Microsoft services to the ecosystem… they help to reach a greater number of other device manufacturers, resulting in even more choice for customers around the world."

BlackBerry, Samsung, IBM Intro SecuTABLET

BlackBerry and IBM join forces at CeBIT 2015 to present the SecuTABLET-- a "high security" tablet based on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (not BlackBerry's own Playbook) aimed at public sector and enterprise use.

The tablet features a combination of the Secusmart Security Card and IBM secure app wrapping technology, and can be seamlessly integrated in existing BlackBerry SecuSUITE infrastructure. It is currently undergoing certification at the German Federal Office for Information Security for VS-NfD (classified - for official use only) security rating.
