Dual-Band, 3-Stream Wifi via ZoneFlex

Ruckus Wireless announces the ZoneFlex R700-- the first dual-band, 3-stream indoor enterprise wifi product from the company built on the 802.11ac standard ideal for use in high-density venues.

It carries BeamFlex+ adaptive antenna array technology, which Ruckus claims extends the range, reliability and speed of indoor wifi services via 6 custom smart antenna arrays (one for each band and a spatial stream).

Beamflex+ technology automatically selects transmitting and receiving traffic on a per-packet basis using horizontally and vertically polarised radio waves, the company says.

ITRI Unveils “Wi-Fi Multicast” Streaming Technology

Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) reveals a new streaming technology that solves Internet congestion, especially in dense areas such as stadiums or concerts halls-- and the technology can also be used on high-speed trains.

Similar to broadcasting theory, the Wi-Fi Multicast technology allows 10X more users to use the same amount of bandwidth as provided by typical streaming services.

Intel Buys Wireless Assets

Intel acquires means to extend the reach of x86-based architecture into mobile operator networks as it buys the wireless inftrastructure unit of Mindspeed Technologies for an undisclosed sum.

Mindspeed makes wireless telecommunications silicon for use in base-stations. On November 2013 it was acquired by network chip maker M/ACOM Technology Solutions for $272 million.

With the acquisition Intel gains technology used in radio-access networks (RANs), specifically the chips inside the DSPs (digital signal processors) receiving and translating radio signals in cellular networks.
