Video over IP: Less than 10 Milliseconds End-to-end

VITEC demonstrates their TurboVideo2 technology for ultra low-latency delivery of HD H.264 IP video at NAB 2013.

VITEC showed a live demo of MGW Sprint Encoder and MGW Sprint Decoder, a set of portable appliances [see photo] with HDMI, DVI and HD-SDI inputs and outputs that, together, deliver FULL HD video point to point at a delay of less than one video frame. The set of appliances can operate in both 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 modes.

"Low latency IPTV encoders have been in use for years for various applications

Barco's ClickShare Adds Three New Features

ClickShare’s new dual display functionality means when two displays are connected to the ClickShare Base Unit, the latter will automatically activate ‘Dual display mode’ and show the content on both screens.

This is especially useful for businesses with a video conferencing system: When they don’t use the video conferencing mode, they can now present information (PowerPoint, MS-Excel spreadsheet, etc.) on two screens.

On top of this dual display functionality, two more features that had been announced at ClickShare’s official launch wi Read more...

SMPTE, VSF Release VoIP Standards

Because IP networks are growing in speed and capability (and so are video signals), we need new standards for interoperability that will allow video producers, broadcasters and distributors to transport HD and other uncompressed video signals using equipment from a wide variety of suppliers.”

That’s why The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and the Video Services Forum (VSF) announce the latest two standards in a series that creates a standardized framework for the transport of video-over-Internet-Protocol (IP)

Pushing the Boundaries of HDR Video

Researchers at WMG at the University of Warwick (UK), have found a way to compress and stream HDR video directly to monitors and mobile devices, such as an iPad.

The researchers, in partnership with University spinout goHDR, patented a method of real-time encoding and remote display of High Dynamic Range (HDR) video. With Portuguese partner INESC Tec, they also have been able to demonstrate their technique in action on an iPad.

This means HDR video content can now be encoded and streamed directly to remote displays, including mobile devices, or sent for storage back at home-base. Gaming could be transformed too, with HDR content available for interactive online and cloud-based games.

While HDR imagery delivers the wide range of light intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to details of dark shade, the amount of data required to capture all of this extra detail is huge. Read more...

Extron Introduces Three Input HDCP-Compliant Scaler

Extron Electronics introduces the DSC 301 HD a compact HDCP-compliant video scaler. This scaler has an HDMI input, configurable high resolution analog and composite video inputs, and an HDMI output.

Featuring an advanced scaling engine with 30-bit processing and 1080i de-interlacing, the DSC 301 HD handles output resolutions up to 1920x1200, including 1080p and 2K. It includes EDID Minder, automatic input switching, and simplifies system connections by embedding audio from one of the three stereo inputs onto the HDMI output. Designed for professional integration, the compact, low profile half-rack width enclosure enables simple and discreet mounting in many environments.

"The DSC 301 HD delivers high performance and a wealth of features at an economical price point," says Casey Hall, VP Sales and Marketing for Extron. "With its compact form factor, and compelling feature set, this scaler lends itself to basic applications calling for a three input switching scaler as well as more complex systems where multiple scalers are deployed into a large signal distribution system."
