Portable Storage Gets Rugged

Datakey launches RUGGEDrive, a line of consumer-style portable storage solutions with enterprise-grade security in a tough form factor.

The company says it uses a solid over-moulding process for RuggeDrive memory tokens, with a tough composite plastic protecting internal components. This allows their use in harsh environments, such as military, industrial, commercial and medical settings.

Datakey tokens use industry-standard protocols (USB 2.0, SDHC/SPI), allowing for easy integration into embedded controllers, single board computers and industrial Read more...

Integral launches a successor to its Crypto Drive, the Crypto Dual-- with dual password protection and and dual OS compatibility.

Compatible with Windows and Mac OS, it carries AES 256-bit hardware encryption with FIPS 197 validation (Certificate no. 1137).

Social networks are also a threat, as cybercrimals use them to share malware by disguising malicious links with Read more...

Is Data on SSDs Truly Secured?

Researchers at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) say data on SSDs is more difficult to erase than that on HDDs, in their study "Reliably Erasing Data From Flash-Based Solid State Drives."

The study tells how sanitising SSDs of data is a difficult task-- if not nearly impossible. Not even overwriting data several times ensures data erasure, as the researchers say they still recovered data on some products. As the paper says: "all single-file overwrite sanitization protocols failed: between 4% and 75% of the files' contents remained Read more...

The Next, Next Generation Firewall

Nir Zuk, Founder and CEO of Palo Alto Networks, lacks neither confidence nor wit. In only 18 months, Palo Alto already claims $100 million in bookings and 3000 users, including top corporations and governments. But Zuk’s larger claim is that Palo Alto Networks has "the world’s only next generation firewall."

Now the phrase “next generation firewall” has been bantered about for some time. Most industry observers expect firewalls and IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) to somehow consolidate into a single box to create the legendary next generation fire Read more...
