HPE Intros Compact Servers for SMBs

The latest addition to the HPE Small Business Solutions line is the ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus, a server the size of a typical hardcover textbook offering "industry-leading" automation, remote management and security, and Intel Pentium and Xeon E processors.

Aimed at SMB customers and available on a subscription-based basis, the ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus is small and light enough to allow carrying and placement in any-size environment. It carries HPE-exclusive "silicon root of trust" technology, meaning it extends security protection to the silicon-level. The company claims it protects data, detects issues and rapidly recovers from malicious firmware attacks, and is also recognised by insurers in the Marsh Cyber Catalyst program.

Supermicro Intros MegaDC Servers

Supermicro announces what it claims is the first line of commercial off the shelf (COTS) systems designed exclusively for large-scale deployment in hyperscale datacentres-- the MegaDC server series.

MegaDC servers are purpose-built and flexible COTS designed for hyperscale infrastructure deployments. According to the company, the servers offer increased cost effectiveness and reliability through a reduced component count and optimised power distribution and backplane designs. The servers support open standards, including OpenBMC, for custom control over functionality and versioning, advanced I/O modules (AIOM) with support for OCP V3.0 SFF cards and common redundant power supplies (CRPS).

Intel Adds to 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable Line

Intel announces a range of "performance and performance-per-dollar-optimised" 2nd generation Xeon Scalable processors promising average 1.36-times higher performance compared to 1st generation Xeon Gold processors.

To achieve such performance, the processors feature more cores, larger cache sizes and processor frequency boosts. Designed for dual- and single-socket mainstream and entry-level servers, the processors are labeled with an "R", "T" or "U" suffix. The addition of more cores and incresed cache makes the processors ideal for workloads with critical capacity-per-server, such as virtualised clouds, hyperconverged infrastructure or network function virtualisation.
