Juniper Networks presents a means to ease the networking woes of branch offices-- Cloud-Enabled Branch, an on-demand means to create and deliver branch office networking services.

Part of the Unite enterprise cloud architecture, Cloud-Enabled Branch handles the deployment of real-time services and applications such as SD-WAN across branch locations, all while incorporating network automation, zero touch provisioning, security capabilities and an open platform.

One can offer Cloud-Enabled Branch through either datacentre or locally on the Juniper Networks NFX250 network services platform and SRX300 services gateway. Juniper adds the NFX250 can handle multiple network services other than SD-WAN, and also includes advanced security in the shape of Sky Advanced Threat Prevention.

HPE Presents Software-Defined HPC Platform

HP Enterprise (HPE) announces a number of high-performance computing (HPC) solutions-- including a software-defined HPC platform and Apollo server enhancements.

The HPC platform combines the HPE Core HPC Software Stack with Insight Cluster Management Utility v8.0. The result, according to HPE, is a flexible yet comprehensive software-defined platform for HPC able to speed up server cluster configuration, deployment and management.

Further leveraging on the platform is are enhancements on the Apollo 6000 system-- specifically ProLiant XL260a server trays based on next generation Intel Xeon Phi processors and Intel Omni-Path Architecture (OPA). Apollo 2000 systems and ProLiant DL server platforms also get OPA fabric options, while both Apollo 6000 and 2000 systems get next-generation Mellanox EDR 1000Gb/s Infiniand networking.

Gartner: Hyperconverged Integrated Systems to Become Mainstream

According to Gartner the market for hyperconverged integrated systems (HCIS) will grow by 79% to reach $2 billion in 2016-- growth propelling such systems towards mainstream use by 2019.

The analyst defines HCIS as "a platform offering shared compute and storage resources, based on software-defined storage, software-defined compute, commodity hardware and a unified management interface. Hyperconverged systems deliver their main value through software tools, commoditising the underlying hardware."

HCIS will be the fastest-growing segment of the overall integrated systems market, one forecast to reach around $5bn (or 24% of the market) within the next 5 years. In addition other market segments are set to face cannibalisation from hyperconverged systems.

Extron Ships Fibre Optic 4K Extenders

Extron announces the FOX II 4K Series for the extension, switching and distribution of 4K video, multi-channel audio and bidirectional control signals over fibre optic cabling.

The series consists of the FOX II T DP 4K and FOX II T HD 4K fiber optic transmitters for DisplayPort and HDMI, and the FOX II R DP 4K with a Type 2 dual‑mode DisplayPort output to support DisplayPort and HDMI 4K resolution displays.

The extenders provide signal extension of up to 2km over multimode fibre optic cabling and up to 30km over singlemode cable. Both transmitters include buffered loop-through for a local monitor at the source, while the FOX II R DP 4K provides audio de-embedding and balanced return analog stereo audio output to support a remote audio source at the receiver.

Datapath launches ActiveConnect-- a long-range fibre optic DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 cable series reaching lengths up to 100m with no need for additional power.

The cables measure just 7mm in diameter and are designed to provide direct connection from any graphics card, including the Datapath ImageDP4, to either DisplayPort or HDMI monitors. The cables also handle transmission from media players to Datapath HDMI or DisplayPort capture cards.
