Up to 15 Cores for Xeon Latest

Intel launches the next generation of Xeon server processor family-- the Ivy Bridge-based E7 v2, designed for mission critical applications such as databases, analytics and enterprise resource planning (ERP).

According to the company E7 v2 processors carry x3 the memory capacity of the previous generation for faster and more thorough in-memory data analysis. Built for 32-socket servers, the chips ship in configurations with to 15 processing cores and up to 1.5TB of memory per socket, allowing for twice the average performance.

Intel Integrated I/O, Data Direct I/O and PCIe 3.0 support help reduce data bottlenecks and add extra storage and networking capacity. Multithreading support allow 15-core chips to run up to 30 threads simultaneously.

Fibre Channel Reaches Gen 6

The Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) announces what it claims is the fastest networking protocol-- Gen 6 Fibre Channel, delivering up to 128Gbps to SANs, as well as reliability, efficiency and simplicity enhancements.

Set for a 2016 release, Gen 6 fibre channel enables 64Gbps full-duplex speeds as well as a 128Gbps throughput option to deliver full-duplex speeds of 256Gbps, all with seamless inter- and backward-compatibility to 16 and 8Gbps fibre channel networks.

In addition the Gen 6 standard features Forward Error Correction (FEC), lower energy consumptions (via optical connectors operating in "nap" mode multiple times per second) and automatic configuration to fastest supported speeds between any two network points.

What's the Best Way to get into the Data Center?

Forget the big storage boxes, the powerful servers, the cooling fans, and the power distribution. Your best way in to the data center business may be the smallest way in...through tiny hardware that fits in the palm of your hand.

"The conversation has changed," Richard Jenkins, VP Marketing & Strategic Partnerships at RF Code tells us. "No one buys technology-- they buy outcomes."

RF Code has been rapidly growing. With $20 million in annual revenue last year, it has become a powerhouse in asset tracking, slapping RFIDs on all the kit in the data center to provide the precise, accurate and actionable information about the location, status and state of physical assets. As regulatory demands on companies of all sizes around power management and sustainability increase, it’s certainly a valuable service.

Through channel partners, RF Code sells Active RFIDs (433 MHz) which allow real-time data capture and data flow in any environment via not only the active RFID hardware (asset tags, sensors, readers) but also via management software (built on open standards).
