HP presents what it claims is the first production-ready 3D printing system at RAPID 2016-- the Jet Fusion, a printer the company says is up to 10 times faster than existing machines while promising to cut manufacturing costs by half.

Based on the Multi Jet Fusion technology first released back in 2014, Jet Fusion machines simultaneously operate 10000 nozzles to print objects on the level of individual voxels (3D pixels made of tiny cubes) at 21 micron resolution. The ystem is similar to thermal inkjet arrays, and provides higher levels of granular control over finished products, as well as a seamless finish.

Environmentally conscious customers wanting to reduce office paper waste might be interested in the PaperLab-- a machine Epson claims is "the world's first compact office papermaking system."

In a few words, the PaperLab recycles used paper (including office paper, business cards and even coloured or scented paper) into fresh sheets of various sizes, thicknesses and types. Making the machine even more environmentally-friendly is the fact it does not use water. Instead uses special adhesives to bind stripped paper fibres before calibrating sheet whiteness and thickness.

Customers can use different binders to create paper with various properties, such as different colours, fragrance or flame resistance.

Toshiba presents a prototype 3D metal printer promising fabrication speeds up to 10x faster than printers using powder bed fusion, the current most common metal sintering technology.

The printer uses laser metal deposition (LMD)-- a technology that deposits powdered metal and fires a laser beam in tandem. A high-speed nozzle based on Toshiba fluid simulation technology reduces the area where metal particles are injected, while the laser focuses very precisely on the tiny powder-covered area.
