Asus Offers Google Meet Hardware

Companies making use of Google Meet for videoconferencing get dedicated Asus hardware-- the Google Meet Compute System, a Mac Mini-stye machine running on Chrome OS in a magnetic chassis users can mount to the back of monitors.

Previously known as the Chromebox, the Google Meet Compute System includes an Intel Core i7 processor and 128GB of SSD storage. It handles 4K video and connectivity with multiple displays, and includes dual-band 802.11ac wifi capability. On the video side, the Starter Kit includes a 4K UHD Huddly camera with 120-degree field of view, a remote control with an integrated keyboard on the back for joining/ending meetings and adjusting volume and a speakermic with echo-cancellation, noise-suppression and daisy-chain support.

Kaltura Takes on Video Meetings

The arguably crowded videoconferencing arena gets another contender as Kaltura, provider of the lecture capture and storage platform, enters the field with Kaltura Meetings, a means for "reliable, scalable and secure" video collaboration.

According to the company, Kaltura Meetings provides easy one-click entry, with no need for downloads and installations, together with digital whiteboards, shared meeting notes and downloadable chats. Kaltura Video Portal comes built-in, allowing users to manage, search, edit, publish and automatically transcribe meeting recordings, as well as easily access cloud recordings of collaboration spaces once the meeting is done.

AVer announces the AW200, a 4K wireless presentation system for sharing content in conference rooms able to act as a stand-alone wireless presentation ssytem within an existing network.

The AW200 includes a main receiver and two transmitter pods enbling the wireless or wired streaming of media at up to 4K resolution with WPA2-PSK wifi security. The plug-and-way design of the hardware does not require additional software or drivers for installation and connectivity. Each AVer 4K Pod features a button to tap to initiate sharing, and includes an HDMI and Mini DisplayPort input to support a variety of device types. The system is also compatible with Apple AirPlay and Google Cast.

Zoom Updates Security in Version 5.0

Zoom claims to focus on recent concerns as it announces Zoom 5.0, a milestone in a 90-day plan to proactively identify, address and enhance the security and privacy capabilities of the conferencing platform.

The 5.0 update adds support for AES 256-bit GCM encryption, increasing protection for meeting data and resistance against tampering. The standard takes effect once all accounts are enabled with GCM. In addition admins get data routing control, meaning they can choose the datacentre region account-hosted meetings and webinars use for real-time traffic at the account, group or user level. This includes any datacentres connected to HTTP Tunnel servers, as well as Zoom Conference Room Connectors and gateways.

As enterprises rapidly adopt digital meeting and workstream collaboration solutions in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Gartner points out three steps for IT leaders to improve current operations for a newly remote workforce.

“The rise in virtual meetings since the Covid-19 pandemic began is putting pressure on enterprise leaders to ensure employees have the right technological capabilities to maintain consistent, high-quality connections with colleagues, customers and partners while working remotely,” the analyst says.

The first step is to ensure reliable and consistent virtual meeting experiences. While many enterprises have acquired and deployed a suitable video meeting and collaboration solution, they need to keep in mind sufficient bandwidth and network reliability are critical to enable productivity and a consistent user experience. High-quality group video calls need at an internet service capable of pushing download and upload speeds of "at least" 1.5Mbps, something some locations lack.
