GTDC Summit EMEA Looks into Channel Transformation

The Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) annual EMEA Summit hosts over 140 attendees in a conference featuring individual meetings, as well as a borad range of panels, presentations and networking sessions.

The conference convened 14 distributors and 38 vendor companies within EMEA. In total GTDC members represent $150 billion in global business, making the organisation the largest international consortium of technology distributors in the world.

“GTDC Summit EMEA is the only conference bringing together senior management from top regional distributors with vendor channel leaders for strategic discussions and learning,” GTDC CEO Frank Vitagliano says. “Strong partnerships are the backbone of industry transformation. Ingram Micro Buys Abbakan

Ingram Micro sets to expand its cyber security business in EMEA with the acquisition of French VAD Abbakan. Financial details of the deal, which is expected to close in Q3 2019, are not available.

ALSO Buys Largest Bulgarian Distributor

ALSO expands further into CEE with the acquisition of Solytron Bulgaria, the largest distributor in the country with sales of €110 million and market share reaching over 30%.

Founded in Sofia in 1991, Solytron trebled sales revenues between 2011-2018. It currently employs around 120 people, and sells solutions and products ranging from smartphones to servers from over 50 manufacturers. It also offers services such as solution advice, training and qualification programs, and provides logistics services to end customers.

PCM to Further Expand into Europe?

US reseller PCM might expand further into Europe, as its successful UK arm brings sales worth $62.4 million for 2018, an increase of 410% over 2017 sales of $12.2m. In comparison, overall 2018 sales are flat at $2.2 billion.

The UK business was launched back in April 2017, and accounts to 3% of overall sales for the reseller.

During the earnings call, CEO Frank Khulusi was asked about potential expansion towards Europe-- something the reseller does not appear to rule out, considering the current situation with Brexit.

ALSO to Acquire ABC DATA S.A.

It's a big deal: ALSO Holding AG will take over the business operations of ABC Data S.A., subject to the completion of the offer and the approval of the regulatory authorities.

Gustavo Möller-Hergt, CEO of ALSO Holding AGALSO Holding AG signed an agreement with MCI Euroventures, majority shareholder of the Polish company ABC Data S.A., to make a joint tender offer for all publicly held shares of ABC Data S.A..

The objective is to acquire 100% of ABC Data's shares, 60.7% already indirectly held by MCI Euroventures. ABC Data S.A. operates in six Eastern European countries and generated sales of PLN 4635 million (EUR 1.080 billion) in 2017. ALSO Holding AG is strengthening its market position in Eastern Europe-- this may be the largest but it's the third acquisition in CE/EE in 2018.

"We will become the number one in Poland and a leading market player in five other Eastern European countries. The transaction is an important milestone in the implementation of our growth plans," says Gustavo Möller-Hergt, CEO of ALSO Holding AG.
