GTT Buys KPN International

Cloud networking provider GTT Communications acquires KPN International, a division of KPN NV operating a global IP network serving enterprise and carrier clients, for €50 million in cash.

The deal should augment the scale and network reach of the GTT Tier 1 global IP network in Europe across 21 countries, including long-haul fibre routes and metro rings in Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam and Paris. It also adds over 400 enterprise and carrier clients, with GTT as preferred international network supplier for an additional 400 clients retained by KPN, together with a global sales, operations, service deliver and client service organisation.

StorCentric Buys Retrospect

StorCentric, the parent company of Drobo and Nexsan, announces the acquisition of Retrospect, a privately-owned developer of backup and recovery software aimed at the consumer, professional and SMB markets.

Financial details of the deal are not available.

Retrospect backup and recovery software counts over 500000 customers in around 100 countries. It supports both consumers and SMBs with a range of backup and recovery capabilities, including support for servers, endpoints and virtual environments, as well as integration with over 20 cloud storage providers such as Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage and Dropbox.

Extreme Networks Buys Aerohive Networks

Extreme Networks buys into cloud management and wireless networking with the $272 million acquisition of Aerohive Networks, a pioneer in cloud-managed networking, AI and machine learning.

According to Extreme Networks, the acquisition adds "critical" cloud management and edge capabilities to its portfolio of end-to-end, edge to cloud network solutions, as well as a subscription revenue stream. It also strengthens the position of Extreme in WLAN during the transition to Wifi 6, with cloud-managed wifi and NAC solutions to complement on-premises wifi and NAC technology.

Intel Brings 10th Gen Core at Computex

Intel heads to Computex 2019 to unveil the long-awaited 10th generation line of Core processors-- the 10nm-based "Ice Lake" range, with a first wave of products aimed at mobile computing applications.

Our job is to come together as an industry and deliver incredible and differentiated PCs, purpose built to what real people want," Chipzilla says. The processor range offers models from Core i3 up to i7, with up to 4 cores and 8 threads, up to 4.1 max turbo frequency and up to 1.1GHz graphics frequency. WSJ: Toshiba Buys Back Shares From Dell, Apple

Last June Toshiba Memory Corporation (TMC) was acquired by a consortium lead by Bain Capital. Now the Wall Street Journal reports Toshiba sets to buy back the storage unit from the companies making said consortium.

The consortium includes Apple and Dell, as well as storage rivals Kingston and Seagate. According to the unnamed WSJ sources, the companies plan to sell their shares back to Toshiba for around 500 billion yen (or $4.5bn) in a deal set to be completed by end May 2019. Funding the buyback are Japanese banks with a loan worth around $11.8bn. Bain Capital is not selling its shares, and as such remains a majority owner of TMC.
