Microsoft Intros Azure Networking MSP Partner Program

Microsoft looks to expand the role of partners in the Azure ecosystem with the Azure Networking MSP Partner Program-- a program enabling partners to offer cloud and hybrid networking services based around (obviously) the Azure portfolio.

The company says partners, such as networking-focused MSPs, network carriers and system integrators, play a "critical role" in enterprise cloud transformation, as they bring both knowledge and real-world experience to enterprise customer wanting to migrate to Azure. Thus, the program aims to help customers find the best MSPs for the job, with managed network services and offerings covering aspects such as network architecture, planning, deployment, operations, maintenance and optimisation.

In total the program covers connectivity (virtual networks, SD-WAN, virtual private networks, DNS management), security (DDoS protection and response, firewalls, web application firewalls and filtering, virtual network endpoints), delivery (traffic management, application gateways, load balancing) and monitoring (network and traffic monitoring and management) services. All will be available through the Azure Marketplace, and customers can purchase said services either through the marketplace or directly from the MSPs.

Kaminario Intros Storage-as-a-Service Offerings

Cloud storage vendor Kaminario announces a trio of solutions the company says present customers with alternatives for building applications combining the simplicity of public cloud and the performance of dedicated storage.

The solutions in question are Storage Utility, Disaster Recover as a Service (DRaaS) and Kaminario for Public Cloud. The first, Storage Utility, combines a consumption-based software subscription model with pay-as-you-go hardware acquisition. It runs on certified, industry-standard hardware from Tech Data, and the hardware expense is converted into a consumption-based monthly payment determined by the amount of storage consumed.

Hardware usage metering is tied to software usage via billing integrated into the Kaminario Clarity analytics platform, and the company says customers can treat the acquisition as a true operating expense (OPEX). Storage Utility is available through the Tech Data Technology as a Service (offering).

Gartner: The Future of Dabase is in the Cloud

By 2022, 75% of all databases will be deployed or migrated to the cloud, Gartner reports, with just 5% considered for repatration on-premises. Such a trend is the result of databases used for analytics, and the SaaS model.

“According to inquiries with Gartner clients, organisations are developing and deploying new applications in the cloud and moving existing assets at an increasing rate, and we believe this will continue to increase,” the analyst says. “We also believe this begins with systems for data management solutions for analytics (DMSA) use cases-- such as data warehousing, data lakes and other use cases where data is used for analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). Increasingly, operational systems are also moving to the cloud, especially with conversion to the SaaS application model.”
