The 2019 SAP TechEd conference sees the German company announce SAP HANA Cloud Services-- a combination of the capabilities of Data Warehouse Cloud, HANA Cloud and Analytics Cloud in a single set of interconnected services.

Equinix Extends Oracle Cloud Reach

Equinix announces it is extending the global reach of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, allowing enterprises across five continents to easily and privately connect to Oracle Cloud on Platform Equinix.

The expansion reaches Zurich, Toronto, São Paulo, Sydney and Tokyo, and provides customers in these metros with private and secure connectivity to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect via Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric (ECX Fabric). Cloud interconnection on Platform Equinix delivers also delivers a secure and dedicated connection between customer datacentres and Oracle Cloud, allowing enterprises to migrate and run compute, applications and data workloads to Oracle Cloud in a high-throughput and scalable manner.

Currently Oracle FastConnect is deployed in six Equinix IBX datacentres in Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Chicag, Sydney and Washington DC. Equinix also provides private onramps to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnectivity in 32 more metros globally, including Dublin, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Helsinki, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Paris, Stockholm, Warsaw and Zurich here in Europe.

IDC: Cloud Infrastructure Spending Slows Down

According to IDC, cloud infrastructure product (server, enterprise storage and ethernet switch) revenues are down by -10.2% Y-o-Y in Q2 2019, reaching $14.1 billion, the result of overall slowdown for the industry.

In fact, the analyst predicts 2019 cloud infrastructure revenues will total $63.6bn, a -2.1% decline-- and a -4.9% drop from the previous Q1 2019 forecast.

Cloud hardware infrastructure revenues for Q2 2019 are down by -0.9% on a Q-o-Q basis and by -15.1% Y-o-Y. Demand from a "handful" of hyperscale service providers continues to impact the market segment, with spending showing up and down swings. After a strong 2018, IDC expects spending to "cool down" in 2019, dropping by -6.7% to $42bn. Although it will still account for most of cloud infrastructure spending, its share will decrease from 69.4% in 2018 to 66.1% in 2019.

Oracle uses the annual OpenWorld conference to announce Autonomous Linux-- a combination of cloud-optimised virtual machine image with a native cloud service, Oracle OS Management Service making "the first and only autonomous operating environment."

According to the company, Autonomous Linux eliminates complexity and human error to deliver "unprecedented cost savings, security, and availability." The system provides autonomous capabilities take care of patching and security tasks in large-scale cloud environments, ensuring systems are both secure and highly available to help prevent attacks.

Avaya Uses IBM in Hybrid Cloud

Avaya announces it the adoption of IBM hybrid cloud solutions to expand the Avaya ReadyNow private cloud unified communications and contact centre offerings internationally while accelerating modernisation.

By working with IBM to implement a hybrid cloud strategy, Avaya plans to tap into technologies such as AI to modernise its offering while enabling customers to benefit from the scale and performance of the global IBM cloud datacentre footprint.
