Gartner: W. European 2012 Security Spending to Reach $11.9 Billion

Global security service spending should reach $35.1BN in 2011 (from $31.1BN in 2010) according to Gartner-- before reaching $38.3BN in 2012 and over $49.1Bn by 2015.

The analyst forecasts security spending in W. Europe will reach $11.9BN by 2012 and total $14.4BN by 2015.

IronKey Hardware Goes Imation

Imation buys the IronKey hardware business for an undisclosed sum, taking over development and sales of IronKey portable storage devices. 

IronKey is best known for the Cryptochip, a highly-secure flash drive using 256-bit AES encryption and the cloud-based IronKey Enterprise Management Service. 

The company will instead focus resources into software and cloud-based security offerings.

Intel and McAfee reveal DeepSAFE at the Intel Developers Forum 2011-- technology allowing the development of security products taking advantage of a "deeper" security footprint. 

Sitting below the OS, DeepSAFE provides what McAfee calls a "vantage point" in the detection and prevention of stealthy advanced persistent threats (APTs) and malware (unlike current security techniques running within the OS).
