Cisco Brings Visibility to WAN

The fragmented nature of WAN makes it one of IT's biggest blind spots, Cisco says-- and company promises to bring make it more visible through a pair of solutions, SD-WAN vAnalytics and Meraki Insight.

“We have set an ambitious goal for ourselves of transforming the entire network, from campus to branch, data center to edge,” Cisco says. “The WAN is a vital part of the network and is one of the toughest to manage. As we bring insight into the WAN with these new innovations, we get closer to delivering end-to-end intent-based networking to help our customers eliminate downtime and save money.”

ISE 2018 sees German control system vendor DSpecialists launch the next generation of the Harvey audio and media control matrix, a key component in PA and conference systems according to the company.

The successor to the Harvey mx.16 handles audio signal processing, lighting and media control, making it suitable for a number of different channels. The audio input and output channels are scalable in steps of 4, meaning Harvey variants can cover the requirements of a small project with an 8x8 audio matrix to special applications such as 4x24 channels.

Further features include excellent audio quality, low constant latency and simple configuration of complex signal processing. Control options include serial ports, ethernet and DMX, as well as the addition of Dante, while the menu-based Composer software handles setup and projection creation duties.

Avnu Alliance Delivers TSN Conformance Tests

Avnu Alliance announces the first set of Avnu Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) conformance tests for the time synchronisation of industrial devices (or IEE 802.1AS) are now available.

The tests ensure a device conforms to relevant IEEE standards, as well as additional requirements selected as necessary for system interoperability. In addition, Avnu Alliance has formed an liaison agreement with OPC Foundation to provide conformance testing and certification of OPC UA over TSN devices. The two groups are currently working together on a unified standard and interoperable ecosystem for the industrial market.

In the future, Avnu will also be able to test and certifiy other traffic shaping mechanisms, frame preemption, redundancy, ingress policing, strict priority and security.

IDC on Enterprise SD-WAN Drivers

What drives SD-WAN deployments in enterprise? According to a global IDC survey, the answer includes bandwidth optimisation, consistent application security, integration with existing WANs, and improved automation and self-provisioning.

SD-WANs leverage hybrid WANs but incorporate a centralised, application-based policy controller, analytics for application and network visibility and security, a software overlay to abstract underlying networks and optional routing capability providing intelligent path selection across WAN links. It provides means to optimise cloud/SaaS applications while providing a dynamic and secure WAN fabric for distributed enterprises.

The survey covers current and future enterprise plans for SD-WAN infrastructure and services. It suggests increased confidence in emerging SD-WAN architectures, as well as the further embrace of SD-WAN across enterprise and service providers, leading to infrastructure and services revenues worth $8 billion by 2021.
