Masergy Adds SDN Features

Masergy adds a Network as a Service (NaaS) self-service option to its its Software Defined Network (SDN) Platform , allowing customers to connect corporate branch office and remote locations to global VPNs.

Customers can use own ISPs and a Masergy-provided managed appliance (or their own endpoint device) to serve as a VPN endpoint, which establishes a secure connection to the nearest Masergy point of presence.

The company says its NaaS is available globally, in bandwidths ranging from 1 to 100Mbps. It is ideal as a stop-gap solution for short-term connectivity needs, as well as temporary worksites, retail locations and redundant connectivity for business continuity plans.

Faster Pinpointing of Network Issues

Fujitsu announces a technology to rapidly identify issues within network operations, allowing even non-experts to assess the impact of such failure on virtual systems within all of 10 seconds.

According to the company usually such investigations can take up to 3 hours in the case of large-scale cloud environments.

The Fujitsu technology automatically generates data from communications pathways between servers, as well as the combined data from virtual servers produced by communications. It then analyses the relationship between virtual and physical systems, identifies the impact of a network failure and reports to virtual system users.

HomePlug Gets Interoperability Event

The HomePlug Alliance announces a multi-vendor event for HomePlug Netricity technology-- bringing together Cisco, Itron, Semtech (EnVerv) and Texas Instruments and the low-frequency, narrow-band IEEE 1901.2 standard.

The Netricity program is designed for long-range powerline networking applications, namely outside-the-home, smart grid, smart city and industrial control. Built using frequencies below 500kHz, the technology incorporates an IEE 802.15.4-based media access control (MAC) layer to enabled hybrid (wired + wireless) networks. The program complements and coexists with the high-bandwidth HomePlug AV and AV2 specifications and standards, as well as HomePlug Green PHY for smart home applications.
