Cisco refreshes its switching portfolio with upgrades aiming for cloud-based workloads, together with the addition of more services and capabilities to its Integrated Services Routers (ISR). 

According to the Cisco Cloud Index, over 50% of data centre workloads will be cloud-based by 2014, with global cloud traffic reaching 1.6 zettabytes per year by 2015.

Solid Growth for Enterprise Networking

Both global ethernet switch and router markets show strong growth in Q3 2011 according to IDC-- the ethernet switch market reaches "record" revenues of $5.9 billion, while routers grow by 2.9% Y-o-Y. 

The WW ethernet switch market grows by 6.1% Y-o-Y and 10.9% Q-o-Q-- but most of that growth comes from Asia/Pacific, the analyst says, mentioning China and India as booming enterprise markets. 

10GbE switch revenues increase by 29.9% Y-o-Y, with Q3 2011 shipments reaching "record" 2.09M units.

Biggest Notebook Contract Maker Looks at Servers

Quanta, the biggest contract maker of notebooks in the world, is looking at the server business-- chairman Barry Lam says the company is planning to rival HP, Dell and IBM by offering full server turnkey solutions.

The Taiwanese company already has experience custom-building data centres, taking orders from the likes of Facebook and Google.
