Seagate Presents 14TB Storage Portfolio

Seagate is all about 14TB HDDs, as it launches a range of drives covering both all enterprise applications-- the the IronWolf and IronWolf Pro NAS drives, BarraCuda Pro desktop drive, the surveillance-optimised SkyHawk and Exos X14 datacentre model.

The Iron Wolf/Iron Wolf Pro drives are built for multi-user environments, and promise best-in-class performance for always-on environments. They claim a workload rating of 300TB/year, and are optimised with AgileArray firmware for NAS servers to offer benefits such as RAID performance, dual-plane balance, rotational vibration (RV) sensors, advanced power management and error recovery control.

Meanwhile the BarraCuda Pro 14TB 3.5-inch HDD is ideal for demanding customers as well as creative professionals and small businesses handling large amounts of data. It offers 7200 RPM spin speed, 250mb/s data transfer rates and up to 256MB cache powered via Multi-Tier Caching Technology (MTC). As such, Seagate says it can handle 8K video editing or the large file transfers to an attached backup.

Supermicro Intros

Super Micro Computer announces the SSG-1029P-NMR36L-- an all-flash NVMe storage server optimised to support Samsung NF1 form factor SSDs, making a server holding up to 576TB of all-flash storage in a one rack unit.

The Samsung NF1 form factor (formerly known as NGSFF and M.3) is designed for high capacity network storage applications demanding the best latency performance. NF1 devices have an optimised low power profile and are hot-swappable, meaning more processing power can go towards drive IO with the fastest CPU and memory available.

The Supermicro all-flash 36-drive 1U system supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors up to 205W (up to 56 cores) and 24 DIMMs for up to 3TB of system memory. It also supports two 16-lane PCIe high-performance network cards, allowing for sufficient network bandwidth to drive storage performance in software-defined storage environments and applications such as data ingest and playback for analytics and AI. The system also supports remote system on/off and system management, as well as remote power cycling for each drive.

Cohesity Takes on Data Silos With Helios

Hyperconverged secondary storage specialist Cohesity launches Helios-- software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool allowing customers to manage secondary data and applications globally via single dashboard.

Secondary data is the data collected by someone other than the user. For instance, the social sciences use secondary data in the shape of censuses, information collected by government departments, organisational records and data originally collected for other research purposes.

The Cohesity DataPlatform spans across on-premises datacentres and public and private clouds. Helios provides a global view of all such deployments in a single control screen, and allows admins to roll out policies and upgrades across an entire Cohesity multi-cluster environment with a single click. In addition, Helios uses machine learning to examine infrastructure use and suggest appropriate adjustments, and can make peer comparisons by using anonymised metadata from other Cohesity customers.
