Dell purchases IT management software developer Quest for approximately $2.4 billion as it continues shifting from simple PC maker to enterprise software provider.
California-based Quest sells systems management, data protection, security and workspace management tools, as well as Windows Server management solutions. It was founded in 1987 and serves over 10000 customers worldwide.
Dell is gradually but surely turning itself into a complete software vendor-- Quest joins SonicWall (network security, data protection), AppAssure (cloud service security), Wyse (virtualisation) and Make (legacy application update management) as part of the Dell software group.
