Iomega Launches Desktop Network Storage Device

E-mail Print PDF

Iomega reveals the StorCenter ix2 Network Storage-- a 2-bay desktop network storage device designed for content sharing and data protection applications for small and medium-sized business networks.

StorcenterIt uses enterprise-class EMC storage technology and provides up to 6TB of network storage, with features usually not available to small organisations such as out-of-the-box surveillance capabilities (for up to x5 IP camera installations).

It comes in x3 different models-- a diskless unit, a partially populated unit with 1 drive (1, 2 or 3TB of total storage capacity) and a fully populated unit with x2 drives (2, 4, or 6TB of total storage capacity).

Users can use both their choice of cloud-based backup (Mozy, Amazon S3 and EMC Atmos-enabled services) as well as Iomega's own Personal Cloud technology, featuring data sharing and protection without any monthly fees or service costs.

Each configuration is VMware and XenServer certified, and is expandable via external USB HDDS. iSCSi target provides block-level access for efficient storage utilisation, and the system also carries native Time Machine support for Mac backup.

Iomega expects all StorCenter ix2 Network Storage models will be available from February 2012.
