Cisco and HP Bury Hatchet, Collaborate on Blade Switch

E-mail Print PDF

Sometimes even the most bitter of rivals will cooperate-- Cisco and HP announce a collaboration to develop the Cisco Nexus B22 Fabric Extender FEX for HP, a switch for HP Blade server systems.

Blade SwitchWhy the collaboration? HP says it has a lot of joint customers using both HP servers and Cisco switches demanding a product addressing their interoperability needs.

Cisco fabric extenders allow for greater scalability by broadening the reach of Nexus 5000 and 7000  switch fabrics closer to the server rack.

euroLAN managing consultant Keith Humphreys tells us "Cisco and HP have always been pragmatic when it comes to the customer, so it is good that the Cisco and HP have temporarily buried the hatchet. Coopetition may be on life support but is not dead!"

In this case, it appears the Cisco-HP customers are the wones who are the winners.
